Subject: APBA NEWSLETTER JAN 1 2022, Northern Virginia APBA Baseball League 2021-2

This is the newsletter for the Northern Virginia APBA Baseball League

Commissioner's Corner

Brief Corner below......

Our 2022 draft will be the last Sunday in February, the 27th, starting at 9:00 am ET. That's a ways away so don't forget. I'll send out some reminders as we approach the day. I assume that this one will be virtual, and we will hope that Chad can provide dial-in for all of us. We will try to nail that down over the next few weeks.

I know who I'm taking with the # 1 pick, and no, it isn't a cardiologist, Any guesses?

Congrats to Larry on his 6th plaque. We are all going to have to be more demanding in trading with the Young Master in the future. But how did he defeat a team that won nearly 70 games? I'm still not clear on that. Maybe we need a select committee to investigate ðŸ™‚

With 6 plaques Larry has surpassed Walt's 5 (we think) assembled since the Pleistocene. Maybe it's only 4. But he thinks it was 5 and since none of us were around that far back we will take his word for it. Anyway, Larry is the leader as far as we can tell. And so I will officially transition from telling Andy stories to only telling Young Master stories from now on.

Thanks to all of you who sent words of sympathy after my surprise hospitalization. At least it was a surprise to me. I got the bill they sent to Medicare and almost had a relapse. I can't imagine how people manage without insurance. You could literally buy a house in most states for what 8 days in the hospital and heart surgery cost.

Not that it wasn't worth it, compared to the alternative.

Stay warm, study hard. And Happy New Year!

Dwight Hamner

Proposal #1: Matching MLB/NVABL Roster Sizes

Proposer: Chris

Write Up:

Update rule IX.C.3:

IX.C.3. NVABL team roster size will match the MLB roster size of the previous MLB season (example:  NVABL 2022 roster size = MLB 2021 roster size)..

Additional Details: N/A

Note: N/A

Proposal #Ohtani-0: Position / Pitcher Availability (Revision 3)

Proposer: Chad

Write Up: Replace rule "XIII. SHOHEI OHTANI USAGE - 2019 SEASON ONLY" with:

XIV. SHOHEI OHTANI USAGE - 2021 SEASON ONLY

  • A. Ohtani will be eligible to pitch as carded - 13 starts, no relief and 80 innings. He may hit in these games but it will impact his batter eligibility total.

  • B. Ohtani will have full eligibility in the OF since it is listed as his primary position.

  • C. Ohtani will be eligible for batting appearances based on his official J-rating. (For example, if he receives a J-1 he will be eligible to bat in 84 total games regardless of position played). His injury rating will also be based on this J-rating.

  • D. He can pinch hit and/or pinch run, at the cost of an appearance deducted from his batting total, as per normal.

  • E. Ohtani is eligible to DH, play in the OF and pitch in the same series. He may not pitch and DH in the same game.

  • F. Games in which Ohtani pitches count as a pitching appearance, game started/relieved, AND a game played (for J# purposes.)

Additional Details:

Note: XIII will change to XIV as a simple typo update. The rest will replace the 2019 Ohtani specific rules with 2021 specific usage. The goal is to effectively treat each player as two cards - a pitcher card and a hitter card.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
