Subject: APBA NEWSLETTER FEB1 2022, Northern Virginia APBA Baseball League

This is the newsletter for the Northern Virginia APBA Baseball League
Commissioner's Corner

Reminder to all that our draft is now only 4 weeks away, on Sunday the 27th of Feb at 10:00 am ET.

By now everyone has gotten the cards and is seeing the same thing I'm seeing. We're back to a full season of data so there are a lot fewer spectacular cards than last year's small-sample-size card deck. For example, the highest rated right-handed starter available in the draft this year is only a 14.

I have the #1 pick for the 3rd time in my NVABL career. Prior to this year I took Ben Petrick (Lyme disease triggering early-onset Parkinson's). He lasted a year in the majors. after our draft. Then I took Evan Longoria after finishing last on the final day of the season. He's still playing, and got his second ring last year as a member of the Aviators.

So who will I pick this year? In the words of our departed colleague Ryan Irving "I know my guy will be there." I am listening to offers for the #1 pick. So far I haven't bitten on anything but I am listening, if you care to indulge yourselves. Since I need everything that allows maximum flexibility. Keep in mind I'll need to be wowed. A combination of a 5th and a 40 year old won't do it.

The trading period ends a week before the draft, so that is Saturday the 19th of February at midnight ET.  Anything after that will not be approved. Now that Jef and Bart have broken the ice, feel free to trade away.

Is Larry the favorite this year? So far he is. He has the best offense and all his top draft picks. Can he match Andy's 3 peat of 20+ years ago?

I'll send out the agenda in a few weeks, as well as another reminder about the draft deadline. Until then:

Study hard, have fun.
